UNC BarCamp 2019

Barcamp is a fun-spirited unconference where people interested in a wide range of technologies come together to teach and learn.

Unfamiliar with the idea of an unconference? During a traditional conference, attendees often find that their favorite parts were the times between sessions when people with similar interests could meet and discuss what was on their minds. The BarCamp format was designed to promote and facilitate this very type of interaction by providing a venue for timely user-generated content and sharing.

Rather than having a pre-set schedule of speakers and topics, attendees volunteer session topics at the start of the day. Those sessions are then voted on and the most popular are scheduled into break-out rooms where attendees can choose the sessions they are most interested in. Everyone is encouraged to present, co-present or help facilitate a session. It’s different from a regular conference, but it works!

BarCamp provides a light breakfast, meeting space, and projectors. All you need to do is bring your technology expertise and passion. Connections made during this ½ day event often spark longer-term collaborations. Participation is free and open to all area technologists. This year, BarCamp will be followed by a cookout provided by the OASIS (Office of Arts and Sciences Information Services) on the patio outside the Brooks Building.  ITS will also provide snacks through out the event.
